All-in-One Punch Cards
The punch card activity allows you to configure all the necessary settings right in the punch card itself, including:
- Number of punches & reward for redeeming the punch card
- Punch item that will entitle members to receive a punch
- Sending and renewing the card
- Sending messages to members when they punch, redeem or receive the card
- Validity period of the punch card
- Which members can use the card and in which purchases
- Display settings of the card like name, description and images
No additional rules are required to punch, send, or renew the punch card, or communicate with members after they engage with the card. In addition, no additional rules are required to give members overflow punches (if you renew punch cards after the last punch). However, you can create punch card rules for more advanced and less common operations like sending the card when members join, or offering bonus punches (ex: double punch Tuesdays).
Classic vs. Custom Punch Cards
Classic punch cards reward members with a free item (such as buy 8 coffees, get the 9th for free). Custom punch cards reward members with a custom discount, such as 50% off specific items, or a coupon for $20 off their purchase. In addition, they allow you to create cases to give different rewards for different locations or POS’s.

NOTE: No rules are required to punch the card. - Select which item the member will receive for free (if different than the punch item)

- To create a custom punch card (advanced discounts and cases):
- From the Definition tab, select Switch to custom punch card.

NOTE: No rules are required to punch the card. - Specify the discount of the punch card.

Discount Options Description On entire purchase Give a fixed amount off or percent off the entire purchase. You can also exclude certain items from the discount and limit the total discount amount of a percent discount.
NOTE: If the discount is configured on the POS itself using item codes or deal codes, you can specify this discount here.On specific items (or free item) Give a discount on specific items: amount off, percent off, special price or free item.
By default, the discount will apply to every item. For example, if you give $2 off coffee, they will receive $2 off each coffee in the purchase. However, you can limit the number of times the discount is applied within each purchase, and limit the total discount amount.Buy/Spend X, Get Y Give advanced discounts on a combination of items or spend: amount off, percent off, special price or free item. Learn more

- each time that a specific quantity or spend appears in the purchase (like BOGO)
- From the Definition tab, select Switch to custom punch card.
- From the Terms tab, define who can use the punch card and when, including:

- Days, dates, and times that the card can be used used (general validity period)
- How long after receiving the card the member can punch and redeem it (ex: 30 days)
NOTE: The actual validity period is the overlap between the general validity period and validity conditions based on receiving it. For example, if the punch card is valid for all of January and up to 10 days after receiving it, and the member receives it on December 28th, the member can punch or redeem it from Jan 1 until Jan 6. - Certain purchase conditions for punching and redeeming the card
- Automatically sending the first punch card when they buy the punch item
NOTE: If unchecked, it needs to be sent using a rule. If a punch card is sent using a rule or one-time activity, the member will not receive an additional punch card when they buy the punch item. - Automatically renewing the punch card upon redeem, last punch and/or card expiration
NOTE: If you choose to renew it upon expiration, the member won’t actually receive the new punch card until they buy the punch item.
- From the Communications tab, you can select to send push or in-app messages when the member punches, redeems or receives the punch card.
- From the Display tab, you can edit the display settings.
The display name, description and image are used when displaying the punch card on the member’s benefit list (shown in the app, POS, customer portal, or ordering sites). - To activate your punch card, click Save.
NOTES:
- You also have the option to save it as a draft if you're not ready to activate it. You can also save it as a template to reuse again later.
- Once a punch card is activated, you cannot edit the number of punches. In addition, cards that are deactivated cannot be edited at all.

View KPIs for the punch cards you create to measure the success of your rewards:

- How many cards were fully punched but not yet redeemed
- How many cards were redeemed
- Total sale when punching or redeeming cards
- AVG spend per visit
- AVG spend per visit with redeem
- AVG days between receive to redeem a punch card
The number of cards sent = redeemed + fully punched + partially punched + expired.
No Punches for Free Items
Members will not receive punches for free/refunded items by default and there is no configuration to change this. For example, if a member buys 2 coffees and returns 1 coffee (i.e., quantity= -1), they will only receive 1 punch in their coffee punch card (since quantities are aggregated).
NOTE: Depending on the POS implementation, members might still receive a punch for a free item. Even if the member got the right discount, the POS might not report the item back to Como as free (for example, if they report the item at the original price and the total discounts separately).
Multiple Punch Cards
When a member has more than one of the same punch card, the card with more punches is punched. This applies to both punch cards created from the Benefits tab or the Campaign Center.
